San Mateo Contacts

This is a private reference site, not the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, a jail desk, a court, or a records unit. We cannot confirm whether someone is in custody, release a person, post bond, schedule a visit, or retrieve an official booking record. Use the official offices below for those actions.

Where to Ask About Jail or Records

For San Mateo County custody questions, start with the Sheriff's Office Corrections Division or the specific public-record channel that matches the record you need.

Maguire Correctional Facility
300 Bradford Street
Redwood City, CA 94063
Main Corrections phone: (650) 599-3000
Historic 24-hour inmate information line: (650) 363-4000 ext. 6070
San Mateo County Sheriff's Office
330 Bradford Street
Redwood City, CA 94063
Main phone: (650) 363-4911

The historic Maguire inmate information line required the inmate's name and correct date of birth. The research materials did not publish a separate walk-in records counter schedule, so call first before visiting for records service. For public-record requests, use the Sheriff's Office public records request webform. If you are requesting your own records, are an involved party, or are an attorney for a client, the Sheriff's Office directs you to the report request process by email at sheriffs_recordsrequest@smcgov.org with the required ID or authorization.

Jail records and court records answer different questions. The jail can show custody status, facility location, pending charges, next court date, or bail when those fields are available. The San Mateo Superior Court is the better source for filed case information and docket records after charges move into court. The San Mateo County District Attorney's public contact is Stephen M. Wagstaffe, 500 County Center, 3rd Floor, Redwood City, CA 94063, (650) 363-4636.
